Hello,
I have an '85 GSL....the cruise control does not work & I think it is because it is missing parts.
I am pretty sure I do not have the cable & linkage assembly (but I'm not positive)... I have heard that there is an electronic box associated with the CruiseControl....so this is my question..

where is the little 'electronic box' located on the chassis? so I can verify that I do indeed have it on the car, or not & then get the parts needed

I guess I could use a pointer on where the cable linkage attaches to the NIKKI as well....lol.

You could always disassemble the steering column to check if all the cables are actually intact. Might shave gotten pinched.

The Cruise Control (CC) module is located behind the driver's side seat inside the Bin area on that side. You'll want to remove the bin liner to get to it. You're looking for a shiny silver steel box about 4"x6"x1" that has one cable connector on it, and it's bolted to the floor. This is the logic controller for the CC system and takes a signal from the speedometer and combines that with vacuum pressure on the passenger side firewall to operate the control solenoid.

The control solenoid is the drum on the passenger strut tower which has the auxiliary throttle cable that pulls or releases the throttles to maintain vehicle speed. I believe that all 84/85 models will have the wiring harness for CC, whether it was installed on all models or not - I don't know.

I DO know that my CC stopped working years ago, and I tracked it down to problems with the vacuum control solenoids and the cable solenoid, and never got it working again. Note that the location of the CC module in the bins means that any moisture that may have leaked in there over time (*from the sunroof drains) has destroyed a lot of the CC modules from the ones I've seen.

Cruise Control is really nice to have on longer road trips, but truth be told - the type of driving most of us do wouldn't really make best use of it, and these smaller cars aren't really well-suited for long road trips, anyway. Good luck,

I seem to never be able to find that manual when I am actually looking for it....the Hayes manual does;t even mention cruise control....lol..

well, seems like I have the electronic module & the associate switches (on column & CC on/off switch seem to work....

However, my car is missing the complete actuator assembly.

Can anyone tell me where the CC gets its vacuum source from? guess it's to eBay for me to look for the actuator....:)
