Cruise Control.....FSM No Help

Hey all,

I've got all the components (I think) to add cruise control to my '83 GS. I've got a complete stalk w/cruise button, a cruise switch for between the seats, and the big Can w/throttle cable that goes under the hood and hooks to the carb.

Question is, do I just start hooking this stuff up and go? The switch between the seats has a connector that looks like a logical fit....the stalk is a simple replacement and logical hook up (I think).....The Can can't be too hard....assume I need a manifold vacuum...the electrical connectors are right there, and hook up to throttle.... The guy who I bought this from also sent me what looks like a CPU he said it was the cruise control controller (not sure if he sent me the proper part or not) where does this go? Does it replace my current CPU?.

Before I go monkeying around with some pretty important stuff, I was hoping I could get some expert advice.

the cruise CPU is located under the driver's side storage bin and must be hooked up in order for the cruise to work. the vacuum for the cruise control is on the rats nest. i can provide a pic if need be. the cruise CPU does not replace your ECU.

Does the cruise CPU look like the regular CPU?

I appreciate the offer, I will hit you up for pix once I'm sure I have all the parts to begin....

Does it matter if the cruise CPU is from a GS (if it was available), GSL, or GSL-SE?

Thanks, I take it everything else is just plug n play.

no, the cruise CPU is about half the size of the ECU. i'll check the parts fiche and see if the CPU's are different and post back

ok, i checked the parts manual and the the cruise cpu's are different between the 12A powered 7's and the 13B SE's. the part numbers are as follows:

12A car: FA30-66-320B
13B GSL-SE: FA66-66-320

the part number should be printed on the unit

thank you

i haven't played around with the cruise control linkage on the carby but it looks like you will need those specific levers, you might need to find a second hand carby with the bits on it and pull them off

good news is that the carb has all the linkages for cruise even though the car may not be equipped with cruise.

Thanks

So I'm guessing this is an ECU not a CPU for the cruise control?

Thanks again

yes, thats the emissions ecu located under the passenger side footwell. i can get a pic of the cruise cpu if you'd like

Would very much appreciate that.

I apologize for bringing up a really old thread, but can anyone show me a picture of where that vacuum line goes?

One thing...

One thing, I think the clutch switch might be different. If it's wrong it either won't work or your engine will go past redline if you push in the clutch with the CC on.

One thing I like is that Mazda provides all the connectors you need for every option, you just need to add the parts.
