crazy vibration!

and i'm not talking about your special toys.

but a few days ago my 85 rx7 started getting a vibration at around 40-50mph. i just assumed it was my tires since they was shot anyways and i needed new ones. i replaced those yesterday and the vibration is still there.

the car has 240k on the body.
the vibration starts out of 2nd gear now.
when i push in the clutch the vibration stops.
when i decel it stops.
BUT if i push in the clutch as i decel it keeps vibrating.

im assuming its the u joints, i haven't got the chance to check yet due to work. but if you guys think it could be anything else tell me so i can check that while im under the car tomorrow

Check the transmission mount while you're down there.

That's the main list, yep; u-joints or tranny mount, with the money being on the front joint or the mount. Also, make sure that the rear joint still has all four bolts holding the shaft to the diff, properly torqued.

Small chance that it could be the diff, but that would be real unusual based on your description.

these guys are right on the mark. i want to add that if you discover a bad u-joint, you will have to replace the entire driveshaft. the u-joints are non replaceable. my thought is u-joint. the trans mount would cause vibration as well as clunking in between shifts or just starting out.

so is there a better than stock replacement for the first gen or do these hold up faily well im looking for about 400rwhp and im sure the stock u joints arent going to hold too long.

i'm not sure what peple are using. a custom made aluminum driveshaft would be a nice shoice
