Crank case vent problem, along with gas tank.

I cannot fill my gastank up without it overflowing before its to its capacity. I took of the hose that connects to the rats nest and it went down, after I paid for it of course. Also i'm getting lung mustard and I cannot stop it. I still have the stock rats nest on, and I only presume it sucks and is complete junk now. What should I do?..

Mind you I have a 79 SA.

check the 1st gen FAQ page for the "lung mustard." i used the pcv setup to vent the crank case and no more prob with it. as for the tank, just vent it.

Sounds like your charcoal cannister is clogged. Im not overly familiar with the 79 rats nest, but the PCV valve on your intake manifold may be clogged as well. Remove it and try to clean it if its clogged.

Heres the thing, my car doesnt have a charcoal canister, unless its the thing on the top of the filter box, built in. As for the pcv valve on the manifold, it was an acv valve and that has been long removed because of my exuast setup.

Yes, the charcoal cannister on SA's is in the filter lid. Not sure how the tank vent goes on there. 79's have a PCV. Its on the other side of the manifold from where your talking. Its a hex fitting screwed into the manifold with tha plastic nipple on it. Its near the carb base by the accelerator pump.

On '79-'80 models that have the carbon canister in the aircleaner lid, the easy setup is to run a hose from the carbon canister to the nipple on the center housing by the oil filler tube and attach the tank purge line to a tee in that hose. Then put a little breather filter on the nipple on the oil filler tube, and you should be set.

Ah thanks alot guys. I went and got one of those mini filters, and for now I ran a hose way down below almost level with the oil pan for the fumes to vent. Its eaither that or have these problems. As soon as the weather breaks i'm going to do the all out rats nest removal. I'll keep ya posted.
