couple questions:oil pressure,overheat
 

alright acouple quick questions guys.

Finnally got my 7 back up in running its a 82 bottom of the line. Anyways when i bought it i noticed it ran too cold and never really warmed up. Sure enough just as i thought the thermostat was missing. (so someone had a prob before) So i added a 180 degree one and drained and filled the system. I also mounted a puller fan on the radiator in place of the clutch fan hooked up to a switch for now. Alright drove it yesterday and i could not keep this thing from getting really really hot according to the factory guage atleast. Whether im going 60mph and the fan is on or just sitting there the gauge was about 3/4 all the way up. So anyone have any clue? I am tempted to just remove the waterpump to inspect it but i would like to ask you guys first if you have had any problems like this before i do.


second i noticed while sitting there it idles maybe around 650rpms fairly steady but my factory oil pressure gauge will read nothing Unless its reved up. The oil level is ok. But i havent changed the oil since i got it so im not sure on the weight. Maybe it needs thicker oil i dont know. Any of you guys have this problem before?

Change your oil and coolant. Is the thermostat a Mazda unit?

Check to make sure you have an undertray, and get rid of your newfound electric fan. Odds are you got one that does not flow the CFMs needed, or it doesn't have a shroud. Go back to the clutch set up and try it again. It seems like you have an airflow problem but you said it happens at speed as well. Clogged rad?

With the water temperature you also need to verify the reading that you are getting is correct. You can take the car to a radiator shop and they can usually scan the temp with a infra red hand held gun and tell you what is going on.


Your electric fan and water pump are not your issue. It is either a gauge malfunction or you have a flow problem associated with your radiator and or a bad t-stat.
