The Cosmo Swap update with pictures
Ok, these are the pix I said I would post forever ago. took these today so they are current. hehe
Still needs more done but it runs, took it to an RX-7 Meet yesterday. I'm only running 4-5lbs boost till I get a better tune. A side note, the jspec engine was stripped, cleaned, painted, installed and driving in 3 days by myself. im tired!, Mt. Dew rules! http://max7.rx-7.org/projects/RE-Cosmo/RE001.JPG http://max7.rx-7.org/projects/RE-Cosmo/RE002.JPG http://max7.rx-7.org/projects/RE-Cosmo/RE003.JPG http://max7.rx-7.org/projects/RE-Cosmo/RE004.JPG http://max7.rx-7.org/projects/RE-Cosmo/RE005.JPG http://max7.rx-7.org/projects/RE-Cosmo/RE006.JPG http://max7.rx-7.org/projects/RE-Cosmo/RE007.JPG http://max7.rx-7.org/projects/RE-Cosmo/RE008.JPG http://max7.rx-7.org/projects/RE-Cosmo/RE009.JPG http://max7.rx-7.org/projects/RE-Cosmo/RE010.JPG |
Sweet ride man, looks like a ton of hard work. Sure shows!
|
Labor of love! Looks great!
|
Looks nice -- I like the side mount alternator setup with serpentine belt. Did you make it yourself? I separated my water pump pullies by forcing pennies between them around the perimeter. Worked a lot better than it sounds. Your car is fairly similar to mine (Cosmo engine conversion on a red FB with sunroof, racing seats, rollbar, etc.). I'll post pics of mine when it's done -- maybe by Labor Day.

Max, great job as always. Do you ever update your site?
|
Nice..........very clean. I likes it alot. Good job.
|
shouldn't the shoulder straps be mounted higher?
|
absolutely gorgeous! i love it.
on a sidenote, is that an REW alternator? |
Very nice! Sure is clean too! A few questions.......
Did you have the cage made or purchased it pre-fabricated? What kind of power are you expecting? I take it the Jspec engine had good compression? Do you trust it enough go with it or did you rebuild it? Again, looks good Max. I was roaming through some old threads and saw the older pictures you posted right before the engine popped. Your 7 is clean and well built. It really shows! Congrats! |
looks great! must be fun@5psi too.
wondering how i never noticed the 3 guages in the center console, thats TRICK |
Love it!!
Always loved the wheels.. Plan to copy your antenna, and Alternator relocation though. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! |
Looks awesome! Two questions though: What intercooler is that? What are you running for engine control?
|
Great job.... how much you want for it? ;)
|
nicely done Max. Engine looks outstanding as well as the rest of the car.
|
Looks good mark, glad I was able to witness the work you did to get it running in 3 days lol......
|
Did you weld on your block off plates?
|
Thanks for the comments everyone :)
John, yah I know i've been slacking on website updates. sadly doubt it will change, hehe Manntis, The mount on the Autopower cage is actually lower. diabloical, Stock Cosmo Alternator XLR8, Autopower bolt in cage, 350 ish HP, got a friend with a mazda digital compress tester going to see. it runs well. Directfreak, I can save you the trouble of copying the antenna and alt, we can just trade cars :) hehe, let me know when you do the alt, I will get better pix of the bracket I made to mount on top as the one with the kit did not work. B6T, Isuzu large NPR, Haltech E6K vxturboxv, I'd trade for a 2007 911 GT3 :) WadeMCarter, yes, welded almost every block off. If i missed any let me know, any other questions post away! I've got about 200 miles on it driving around, It runs well. can't wait to get a good tune an 15lbs boost.......... |
thats a really nice 7
|
WOW!!!! looks great. im jealous. how much at the end did this transplant run??? $$$$
|
VERY PURDDYYY! Great job... it's giving me inspiration for my SE!
|
Im going to make it simple;
very impressive. great work. Inspiring... |
Looking good Max! Couple questions for you, in order to mount you rad at an angle like that did you just make custom brackets? Any more detailed pictures of how you mounted it?
Is your alternator relocation kit from Pineapple racing? I'm using the pineapple racing alternator relocation kit and i'm wondering, where did you get the serp belt (proper length belt), and the pulleys (from an FD?)? |
Dan, Thanks! I love your project!!!
I made a bracket to mount the intercooler and rad on one angled bracket. mounts where the bolts come thru on top for the sway bar mounts. https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...d=195566&stc=1 Yes, its the kit from Pineapple, but i made my own top bracket to hold the alt. The serp pulleys are stock Cosmo units, I just took a measurement and went and had them find me a correct size one to fit at the parts store. |
Hey Max,
With the autopower, did you have to modify it in any way? Was it a complete bolt in setup or did you weld the attatchment points? I have been debating between their roll bar and their full cage. I really havn't seen what it looks like until now. Not many people have them and their website doesn't show vehicle specifics. Could you give me a quick review of how you liked and disliked it? Do you feel it was worth the money? Thanks man. |
