A cooling tip

I was running my car the other day and noticed that the temp was sitting right where it used to sit 20 years ago. This on 100 degree day down in Charlotte.

In the last year or two I've been fighting a cooling issue and swapped in a new tstat and flushed and filled with new coolant without much luck. The temps were straying up around half way on the guage and I knew that wasn't right. I've had the car for 24 years of its life, I know it normally sits at one quarter.

Hmmm, I wonder what fixed it? Lets see, I swapped in a tstat and coolant again but I'd done that before with no success. Oh yeah I know what I did I repalced the 27 year old oil cooler lines to the FMOC! Those old lines were all crappy and swollen inside restricting the flow.

So next time you have a cooling issue and you've tried everything else ask yourself how old are those oil cooler lines anyway? This demonstrates how vital the oil cooling system is to keeping your motor from overheating. I was getting close to a melt down and now its like I rolled back the clock 20+ years. Oh yeah.

What color is your car?

t_g_farrell 08-21-07 01:12 PM

Grey but you haven't seen it yet around Charlotte as I haven't got it licensed and inspected yet.

I did see an FB in the Lowe's parking a lot awhile back with the some what looked like SCCA letters/numbers, ES 82 or something like that in tape on the side of the car. I can't wait to get it out and meet up with some of the folks down here.

Not me, but mine is silver. Found another guy around here with a red first gen. Hope to see ya around sometime!

well dammit, that's probably why my gsl-se is getting hotter than it should. I replaced the lines but the cooler was cracked at the bung. I had it welded, but it seems like its still leaking a little bit.

Once I get it ready I'll show up at the meets if I can make it. My car isn't real shiny and pretty but it runs good.

Thanks TG!!!!

I am currently troubleshooting a cooling issue I am have tried just about everything. I am going to add this to the thinks I check out if boiling my radiator doesn't work.

BTW, what kind of hoses did you get?

The SS ones from RB or Mazdatrix, don't rember which vendor but mtrix resells the RB ones, so its a wash.
