Coolant leaking from engine

I have recently discovered that my 82 GSL is leaking coolant. It is dripping from the passenger rear engine area. Upon further investigation I found very small puddles of coolant on the top of the engine starting by the thermostat/water pump area and going back to the rear on the engine. I think that the coolant is leaking from the thermostat/water pump area then running along the top of the engine and evenually leaking down the back of the engine to the ground. The top radiator hose is in good shape and no leaks appear at the hose connection to the engine. The engine will leak coolant even if the engine is not running and will leak until most of the coolant has drained from the top of the radaitor.

Before I start ripping things off the car and try to find the source of the leak is there any common leak areas with these cars such as the water pump gasket, etc.

There is a gasket between the water housing (where the water pump and thermostat attach) and the front iron. This gasket is generally not included with a water pump, but that entire housing is held on with studs/nuts that go thru the pump. Common place for a leak to occur after a water pump replacement.
