Coolant leak inside cabin (pic inside)
Can anyone tell me if this is leaking from the heater core?
Its right next to the driver side foot well. Coolant reservoir drops a little everytime I check it. Steamy windows. So far I bypassed the core for a temporary fix until i confirm. http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/5...3112538.th.jpg http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/5...3112559.th.jpg |
Unfortunately that has to be the heater core. I recently had to do this repair in my SA. Dash removal time and yea, its a bitch. No help from the fsm either.
One reccomendation is to remove the whole thing as a unit without taking the seperate pieces apart. |
Agreed, has to be the heater core. Good luck!

you could bypass the heater core thats what i did on mine when it was leaking i just just done removing all A/c and heater crap without removing the dash board but it takes time and patient

This happend to me. I bought a new heater core. I also searched a bunch on here and red about the heater control valve(which is mounted on the driverside of the heater box). When I took the heater box out i found signs of coolant leakage at the valve. I replaced it also. Just a heads up!

By the looks of your pics it's probably the valve. You'll see when you get the plastic cover off. As for taking the dash out, it's not too bad. Three 10mm bolts along windshield, I think there's two on each side by the door jams which you see when you remove the panels, unbolt the two bolts that mount the steering column to the dash, I'm pretty sure you have to drop the fuse panel down off the bottom of the dash which is two screws in between the two rows of fuses. Then unplug your cluster, speedo cable is the fun part! Once you get the center paneling off I belive there's a few bolts holding the dash in there too. Might as well take the seats out for more room;) good luck!

Thanks for all replies.
Frenchie - it is coming from the driver side. Thanks a lot for that tip. I shall order both parts! |
Yeah usually if it's the heater core it leaks on the passenger side
|
Can you point out to me where I can purchase a new control valve one.
|
Black dragon auto. I lucked out. I have a bunch of parts cars
|
Go to the website and order a free catalog. Lotsa cool stuff there
|
I'll take a look at the cars I got. Maybe I can find one
|
Thanks a lot. Wouldn't purchasing the part new be more safe?
|
Of course it would be.
|
Id appreciate it if you had one laying around in one of your parts cars and snapped a pic of it so I could get a idea of what im trying to get (:

# 4 above in heater components. I apologize for the poor quality of the image but its the best I can do at the moment, maybe it will help. |
wow R watson... thanks a lot man! but $100! jeez.
That is the exact part that is leaking from the looks of it. |
I will still have to take off the dash in order to replace this part huh...?
Damnit...its the winter and it sucks to have no heat! |
I'll give you a used one. You just pay for shipping
|
I red on here that you CAN change the valve without taking the box out, but the hoses that go to it would probably be a pain.
|
And by the looks of this one in front of me, there's a pipe that goes behind the box on the firewall side. I'm gonna pull this box out and I'll see if I can get a pic for you. Not too sure how to upload a pic. I'll have to talk to John Smack
|
I'd be willing to purchase that part from you frenchie! And also I use the website WWW.imageshack.us to post pics.
Go to the site. Upload the pic from the location that you saved it. And when its done uploading it should provide a link for the pic. Insert link in a post. |
What year is your car? I could send you the whole heater box
|
Here is a pic of the valve

The clamp that goes on the end of the longer pipe is behind the heater box in between the box and the fire wall, I don't think you can get to it without removing the box and you just about have to remove the dash to remove the box. It can be done but it's less trouble to go ahead and remove the dash.
