converting points to no points
 

What do I have to do to modify an 83 distributor to work on my 79.

Install the distributor.
Remove ballast resisters from coil wiring.
Install distributor to coil wire harness.

If not it should be i looked when i had my 80 and couldn t find any good info.

What's puzzling is that my '79 is converted but the ballast resistors are still connected. I haven't tried to dig into the wiring yet to how things are routed, but I'm confused because it works but the resistors are still connected. When I get done with the suspension swap, I'll look into it.

I'm working on the same thing. changing my '79 to and electric ingnition. Does anyone know if there is a kit like the pertronix ignition kits that work for an rx-7

Ballast resisters just cut down the voltage in order to not burn the point up. Would run with electronic and resistors but is better without.

I've got the stuff to convert my REPU, but I also plan to swap the coils, since everyone here said to swap the coils at the same time.

Just another project on my list.

When you say ballast resistors, do you mean the fusable links. I have the Haynes manual recommended in the mazspeed ignition swap link. It does not show fusable links but resistors where the fusable links are. Very confusing. Does anybody have pistures of this conversion?

The resistors are simply coiled wire springs that are surrounded by a ceramic cover, in the strut tower.

Wow it took me a while to understand this post! Try some punctuation! But 80s didn't use points so I don't know what this post has to do with this topic. Unless I missed what you were referring to.
