contemplateing emmission removal.
 

I read the thread about 3 times allready(rats removal). I got a '82 and the exhaust is missing the split air tube and check valve. The cat is caped off. Thinking if I should drop it and hollow it out. I am not sure though. What if I removed the acv and left the air pump hooked up?

I don't want to have that annoying smell. I don't want people to pass out behind me. I got the msd ignition and still have the rats nest on. I was checking the system out because the car is sputtering all over the place and will not slow down in idle. The blue selonid, the one that goes to the black dashpot behind the carb.. it broke when I touched it. I guess I should just follow that rats removal thread and take all those things off.

I found most of what I need. I havn't found the 9/16 fuel/exhaust hose(anyone know of a replacement?)

Now I just thinking if I could just leave the airpump on, take the acv off and hollow out the cat. Also taking care of the rats nest. If I did All that will the fumes still stink? How far can I go and have the fumes not stinky. I don't have much room in my budget for this so I need to do something cheap and effective. Right now the fumes don't stink alot. But I got lots of backfireing. I am thinking its the fact that the cat is not getting enough air.

also.. the airpump is only being held with one bolt and its loose. The air pump doen't move. The bottom bold broke off when I was tightening it.

Take the air pump off, and remove the cat. You could use a cheap glass pack for a cat replacement I think. The filler in the glass pack would burn out pretty quick, but the metal that they use for them is pretty thick, so you would essentially end up with a nice piece of exhaust pipe.

Pay close attention to the blockoff plates too. Other than that, its pretty simple. I'd take some pics of mine, but I have a Sterling carb now and can't remember what the differences are. The only vacuum lines that I have now are one to the vacuum advances and one to the oil filler tube.

Theres no point in having the air pump hooked up if you take the ACV off.
Im having trouble thinking of what the 9/16 hose is for...please refresh my memory :)
Don't worry about the stinky exhaust, I rarely ever smell it in the car, and it isn't that bad!
Gut it all and do the mechanical secondary mod.
