Considering buying a 1st gen, have questions.

I was at a junk yard today, and there is an 83 in there, it has a bad front left 1/4 panel, and has been bondoed up in the top back left coner. And it also has some wheels that look kinda like BBS rims on a 2nd gen vert, but not completely. And on the 1/4 panels it says "limited edition". Is there anything that is realy special about this car, also he only wants $400 for it, and that seems dirt cheap to me, but this is realy the first 1st gen I've ever considered looking at. But the down side is that he won't give me a straight yes/no on if it runs or not. But if I brought a hot battery and some gas in there, I could probably find out pretty fast.

And I do know how to work on these car pretty good. I am just wondering whata model this car is and if $400 is a good deal. Also it has a NASTY red interior, and I think that is about the worst thing about it. So just give me some opinions.

Thanks, Cory

I think it's a GSL...not too sure bout that special edition....u can get a replacemtn front 1/4 panel/fender from a junkyard or from victoria british....seems like a good deal if the motor works.

good luck,
Gufran

$400 if it's running sounds pretty good. I just bought a 84 today with a blown motor for $100 but the rest of the car is intact(parts car). The sad thing is we sent 8Fb's to the junkyard in one day. (WOW!! that hurt.)

I'm gona go ahead and buy it, and try to get him down to $300. And if it runs/drives good, I'll apply for a lost title, or just get a salvage title.

Sounds like one of the 5000 Limited Edition GS models of 1983 in Chateau Silver, 14" mesh wheels, red pinstriping and yes that red interior.
For $300, not bad... get that thing back on the road and enjoy your new toy :)

Well it's genetic, because me and my brother both start projects and then get a new one half way threw, because I had the supra7, but I'll finish it, and make the GSL my daily beater. That way I'll have something to drive to school.

why is your intercooler all crooked?

82transam 09-10-03 08:52 AM

Thats a 83 Limited Edition you found, it has all the stuff racerx7fb said it has. I have one as a parts car, and yes the interior is nasty as hell. Nice wheels though. You should buy it.

Metallic_rock 09-10-03 09:01 AM

does it have these rims?

Those are the LE rims... very nice. You will have a much larger selection of tires with 14" rims. Obviously, you can get them polished up pretty well, too. (that was my car)

Cory Simpson 09-10-03 03:05 PM

Yeah, it looks just like that red one, exept it has a gold/silver paint that is all crappy and faided.

Also do the 83 limeted editions have LSD's? And is there anything that is special about it, like stiffer suspension, or any chassy options that no other 1st gen's had?

82transam 09-10-03 03:15 PM

Not to offend anyone that has one, but the 83 LE is basically a joke, its a GS, so no LSD, rear drums, nothing special at all, other than the wheels and paint. That doesn't mean you shouldn't get it, but its nothing special compared to any other first gen

Ohhh ho, kinda like the 10th AE 2nd gen. Were as the 88 GTU was the true 10th AE.
