Compare: Miata to RX-7 suspension
 

Ok, I just installed a set of KYB 8 way adjustables and some coilovers for my friend on his 1992 Miata. This wasnt nearly as bad as I ahd thought it would be, even with the IRS (maybe its because I had to swap out the ENTIRE rear sub frame a few days ago, so this looked easy), but I was wondering if the work I plan on doing on my RX-7 will be about the same? I mean, it was pretty simple on the Miata, I did all four corners in about 6 hours. Thats 4 new shocks, 4 new coilover kits, 4 new springs, 4 new TSW wheels (with new tires ;)), and all back together and torqued down. Thats also including the time we had to search on the interent to figure out how to use the coilovers with the KYBs cause we didnt know where the sleeve was supposed to sit, and also I had never done anything like this before. So, I dont think 6 hours was that bad. Oh and we also put the entire exhaust back on the damn thing too, from the engine to the muffler. Anyway, the main point is if the RX-7 will be about as "easy" to put new shocks/struts, springs or coilovers on as well? If so, Im not as scared as I was ;).

the hardest part of swapping the rear shocks on a 1st gen is removing the interior trim !

I've not done the fronts yet but they look a lot trickier , especially having to compress the springs (i always hate doing this as they can make a right mess if they uncompress quickly)

the 1st gen is a ton easier to put shocks in than a miata. you can do the rear almost without lifting the car

I did the rear with new shocks and springs, in about a half hour. Was really easy, I havent done the front yet though..... I suppose I should do that before the next auto-x... damn.

Huh, ok. Sounds easy then. I didnt think it would be any harder. Im set for it then I guess :). The spring compressor is easy, he has one, so I dont have to worry about that. Now I just need to wait and get the money for it all :(.

ive just changed all my springs and its not that hard at all.. the back spring is very easy, just compress heaps it and it should just pop out.

the fronts a bit of a bitch, u have to undo the 2 bolts on the bottom of the shock casting, and a socket JUST fits in, but once there out there is only the 4 bolts on the top and the one holding it to the tie rod and it should easily come out..
