Color spec for the original X wheel

I'm doing my X wheels and want to do it right. Does anybody know exactly what color they used for those dark gray parts between the metal?

Thanks

Is it? Mine all look like some kind of dark gray. Maybe they've just faded over the years.

Thanks guys.

i have an oem set of X wheel manufactured in 89 and they are nearly perfect. they have been in a box individually wrapped for many years. i believe the shading on the wheels is a dark grey. i'll double check tomorrow and post pics of the wheels on my FB's for comparison.

Thanks Dave, that's the reference I needed! If you can put something that is true black in the picture near the wheel paint would help determine the shade of dark gray.

Thanks!

They are almost a dark metal like gunmetal. Definitely not black. I would do Gunmetal gray Ray.

Thanks TT, I need to stop at Home Depot on my way home today, I'll see what they've got in gunmetal gray.

I'm thinking of just carefully brushing on a high quality enamel. Doing all that masking for spray paint is probably to much work, a good brush job should be very hard to notice.

No problem. I'm sure any gunmetal will be close in color though.

Good idea. A good quality brush shouldn't show the actual brush stroke if you will in the paint either..

I redid one of my + wheels. I used Dupli-Color Wheel Coating Graphite. They sell it at the parts store. http://www.jegs.com/i/Duplicolor/318...0002/-1?CT=999

Well finding some graphite or gun metal gray spray paint turned out to be a pain in the ass, nobody has any.

So I went with black. Michael and acekid7 were right after all, it's the perfect color

The hand painting wasn't a good idea either, so I went with masking, taking off the tape tomorrow.
