cold air intake

1 Attachment(s)
Well after deliberating on how to fashion a cold air intake for my camden I have decided where to go with it, through the hood. This combined with a qtec exhaust cutout http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/QTEC/index.php , nitrous and then a scoop should make my bridgeport breath its full potential. I will naturally cut up a test hood for fitment and testing before making a final decision.

A friend of mine was using one of these on a built 454 running a 850 holley in a pickup and had no issues so I am sure it will flow plenty for my setup.

that is going to be really crazy loud

84stock 02-11-08 08:33 PM

Mild to wild at a flip of a switch.

Did a trial fitment with the hood open (waiting for my donor hood to do some cutting). It's gonna look very aggressive! Nice thing is with the curvature of the hood is that it doesn't have to stick up too far for the front of the scoop to get a good path of air. My next concern when done will be secutiy, I would hate to come out of a mall and find the scoop and carb missing, 4 bolts and a pair of side cutters and she's gone. Gonna have to be a little creative there.

Use the part of the hood you cut out and attach it around the bottom of the cleaner or wherever the hood lines meet up? If it is high enough that is. IIRC, don't those have a round cylinder lip on the bottom to mount to the carb? If that lines up with the hood then there ya go. Quick drawing because I am bored.

84stock 02-13-08 07:23 PM

Yeah the base contains the air filter and that gets held down with the carb stud. The the scoop get bolted onto the based with 4 small bolts. The hole ith the hood needs to be big enough for the scoop to clear when opening and closing (I don't wanna have to remove the scoop to open the hood). You drawing represents well how much I want it to protrude through the hood. What I "may" do is keep the cutout piece, then form and weld a liner around it. Perhaps with a couple studs and wing nuts mounted under the hood, I could stick this through and secure it when the car is left outside say at a movie or something. Tadaaaaaaaaaaa, that'll do the job!

84stock 02-13-08 07:29 PM

Reading the bottom of your post I hate to ask, but what did you use to do you finger painting (let me guess, it didn't come out of a bottle and the only color you had was red).

teddyrx2 02-13-08 08:15 PM

oh man this thing is going to be wicked...get some pics so we can see too

84stock 02-13-08 08:16 PM

Nothing worse than a wanna be running one of these on a carb'd n/a chevvy or mustang. I'll have the blower and the whine to go with it, then uncap the exhaust at a touch of a button and zoom zoom. Definitely gonna be an eardrum popper for whoever ends up on the right side of me.

yetterben 02-13-08 08:24 PM

Wish someone made the gilmer here in the states

84stock 02-13-08 08:29 PM

There is, Atkins (aka Pulley Boys). I inquired about going that route with mine and they said they only recommend it for track use, otherwise the set up tends to eat alternator bearings. I give them credit for being honest, could've just said "sure dude" and took my money.

yetterben 02-13-08 09:13 PM

Didnt relize they sold the cog style gilmer like tweakit???

Atkins Dan 02-14-08 02:50 PM

Yes we do and here is the PH # 253-588-2350 WWW.PulleyBoys.com

84Stock Looks good too. Dad had something like that on his RX2 race car back in the day and I dont think he had any complants eather. But than again I was about 6 years old when he rolled that car at a local track.

hey dan or 84stock, what size jets are best for a holley 650 on a 1/2 bridge with a 7" blower?

84stock 02-14-08 07:53 PM

Varies greatly depending on altitude, weather etc. Even i change jets seasonally. A wideband investment is the best tuning tool you can buy.

Nope............

orion84gsl 02-24-08 05:35 PM

You could try fabbing some "lock nut" bolts instead of using the regular Hex head bolts. That way only you could get them off. You could also try putting rubber caps on the bolt heads to make them less noticeable.

warwickben 02-24-08 05:40 PM

i forgot its on a sc. lol my bad. if i ever get the setup i want you wount be the only one with this setup. i dont think most people would try to steal it off your car. you dont own a honda so you dont really have to worry about parts being stolen.
