clutch issues. please help!

I just rebuilt my clutch master and slave because my clutch was not dissengaging. Well now that they are rebuilt I can physically feel, and I have checked to see that the slave cylinder is pushing out the clutch fork... But it will still not go into gear WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING! When the car is off I can move freely into any gear regardless of the clutch being pushed in or not. What gives?! Moreover my car now smokes more than it did before (nice big blueish-white puffs), and I can hear apex seal chatter or failure (not for sure but it sounds like apex seals).

you can adjust (extend) the push-rod. that help it disengage.

Is there any type of noise associated with the trans when it is running. Is there noise when the trans is in nuetral with the pedal engaged or when the pedal is disengaged.

Did this happen suddenly, or slowly? If suddenly, you may have broken the pivot ball that the clutch fork sets on. The clutch will appear to work normally, but won't have enough throw to disengage the pp. To check this, unbolt the slave and see how loose the clutch fork is. There will be some movement, but if it moves out of place easily, it's the pivot ball.

The first thing I would check, though, is the system bled completely? You may be getting some pushrod movement, but maybe not enough.

Most trannys will shift fine with the engine off.

I have throughly bled the system and ajusted the pedal all the way out to get the most movement and I still have the problem. This problem did happen suddenly. It happend while I had the car in nuetral and was revving it up and popping flames out the tail pipe. I will remove the slavbe again and see if it is the pivot ball. Thanks for the pointers, I will try them out and keep everyone posted.

You gotta pull the tranny to check the pivot ball. The ball is inside the bellhousing.

I removed the slave cylinder and I can freely move the fork forward and backwards? What would cause this? Thanks for all the help.
