Which clutch goes into my car?
I have an 84 with a 76-78 13b swapped into it. Now do I use a 76-78 13b clutch or do I use the clutch for an 84 with a 12a?
Thanks, Brian |
What tranny is in it? I think that matters, although Im having a bit of a brain fart at the moment. Im trying to think about too much car crap at once between Mazdas, Toyotas, and Fords, lol. I need to lay off the projects...

I don't think it really matters, but the clutch from the '84 is slightly bigger than the '83 and down clutches. I'd use the one that is recommended for the motor if it were me.

All N/A trannies (TypeM) have the same spline count,so you will use the clutch disc that matches the diameter of the flywheel running surface,either 215MM(74-82) or 225MM(83-91).
It should be 215MM if the factory 70's 13B flywheel is being used.All rotary clutches from 74 to 82 are the same. |

Yup, I didnt think it mattered about the tranny, Im just in the middle of doing a lot of work with my friends Bronco mixing and matching bellhousings, trannies, transfercases, etc and was drawing a blank. But now that I think about it, I remember the trannies interchanging which means the cluches wouldve worked because of the spline count, and as long as you bought the clutch for the flywheel you have, you should be fine.

I've used a 225mm assembly in a '74-'78 ribcase tranny with an '86 or later NA starter. NA stuff is all more or less interchangeable (I had to grind some casting flash from the starter hole because the FC starter has a slightly fatter nose cone).

the clutch must match the year of the flywheel

Dragging up an old thread;
The clutch must match the flywheel, but what about the pressure plate? Can I run the larger presure plate on a smaller flywheel/clutch combination? Thanks!!! M. |
a manual transmission clutch :p:
