clutch/flywheel question
 

ok, ive been searching for an hour and a half ,also checked the faq's and archive, and still haven't got the exact answer im looking for. my clutch is slipping in my '82, so im gonna replace the works while im at it w/ a light steel flywheel and a good clutch/PP. my question is, if im replacing it all can i use the 225mm (83+) flywheel/clutch/PP w/ my '82 trans, starter, and an '82 counterweight?

You can use the 225mm clutch set up and the 82 counterweight. The counterweight is determined by the year of the motor not the clutch.

Better hope you have a BIG! socket to take your flywheel off with...lol...

Not really. I usually take fly wheels off with a hammer and a chisel. Impact guns rarley work to first loosen the nut off. Just from my experience anyway. I usually lock them in using the same method, you'd be amazed at how much more of a turn you can get after the impact gun is done with the hammer and chisel.

you must have one sissy ass impact gun there nector ;) Mine spins em right off :D

What exactly is the size of the flywheel nut?

thanks rx7doctor....in the process but lacked getting the nut off and didnt have time to look for a socket or anything....its been sitting in my friends garage now for 2 1/2 weeks (went away for christmas) and I've been curious on how big it is

i used to use the chisel-method as well until my last engine build. i bought a socket and 3/4 ratchet handle (about 18-inches) and i refuse to go back to the chisel-method. all i need are 2-3 people to hold the motor down and i use some of my spare exhaust tubing ... and that's it.
