clutch fluid vanishing
 

I went to start the 7 and when I pressed in the clutch, it went down way too easy. It started but died when i let the clutch out ( out of gear). I tried again and it finally stayed running but the point of engagement in the clutch was way too close to the floor. I shut it off and looked at the clutch fluid. None in the reservoir thingy. There was a bunch of crud in there though. Where did it come from? Where did the clutch fluid go? Bad slave cylinder? How do I get the crud out. It is kinda shiny crud, like graphite or something.

i just wet vaced the old fluid out and replaced w/new, only holds about a pint (i think) might buy extra, mine was loosing fluid thru a pin hole leak in the hose from master to slave (10 bucks), but i also rebuilt the slave about another 10 bucks,,,.......be sure to hone out the slave with some light grit paper if it has rust or pits,,may also need replaced if too pitted to hold pressure, but may also be the master, you will see fluid in the car under where it attaches to floor board...good luck....

My advice is to replace the clutch master cylinder, the slave cylinder and the hose. Total cost about $100.00. Rebuilding it yourself wont' last, and who wants to be stranded? If one of the components is bad it won't be long until the rest go too. I purchased my stuff from Victoria British, but didn't have to pay their outrageous shipping charges because I live close enough to pick the parts up.
One other tip: When replacing the master cylinder it is easier if you pull the front seat out (four bolts). You don't have to it just makes it easier.

what hanman said. however if you are broke the less than $20 for both rebuild kit idea might apeal to you.

I rebuilt mine cause I could not wait on the parts. In this town they have to special order everything. But the kits were in stock. I cannot afford the downtime on the car.

Thanks guys Master cylinder shows no sign of leaking and the hose looks like new. I just ordered the slave cylinder from victoria british. I'll deal with the master cylinder later. I'm a bit short on time and $ and the master cylinder looks good so it should last a little while longer. Thanks for the help.
