Cibie vs Hella headlights?
 

Alright. Let's here some discussion on Cibie vs. Hella replacement headlights in the 1st gen. I'm eventually gonna go with one or the other with an upgraded wiring harness to light up the desert nights.

Out of curiosity, are you talking about replacing the sealed beams or about switching over to the lens/bulb set ups?

I've heard good things about Hella. I'm running a simple Bosch halogen-sealed-beam to H4 lens-and-bulb conversion and even just that made a huge difference. trying to decide if I should 'upgrade' to the super whites or not.

Standard H4 Bulb. I used to be able to tell a difference when I had my driving lights on. Now, when I hit my High Beams, I can't tell any difference.

Since I live in a dark Canyon, I very impressed with the Hella's.

However, I'm running Cibe's in my Vert. Just as impressive as the Hella's.

So, I think its more what you can get for the best price as long as you stay with the major brands. Here is a good place for information and to purchase:

My rx-7's stock sealed-beamers work great, and light up pretty much everything... they're brighter than our '95 Nissan Axxess's headlights... go figure. Plus, I have my driving lights, so it's even better.

UK Cars came with Cibies as standard ... I think they are pretty good ... much better than most 80' 90's cars with their body shaped headlights with poorly designed reflectors

Both are a good make ... cibies are very popular for aftermarket spotlights on classic fords over here yet my mate Dave has a set of Hella FF3000 Spotlights on his Marina Coupe Rally car that are fantastic

Seeing as they are just replacement round lights I bet theres not a great deal of difference between the two ... go fo which ever is cheaper ... the wattage of the bulbs makes the biggest difference

Drove my Cibie to the Libie but the Libie was dry...

Here's some more food for thought... has anyone seen those sealed beam to capsule style conversion kits on eBay? There's on in particular that I really like for uunder $50.. no splicing needed, as the housing has the correct three-prong terminals already on it. I switched from stock capsules to hyperwhites in my Chevy and the difference was amazing. I'm just wondering if they switch would be as dramatic for the Rex...

Yup, we've seen 'em, that's what my Bosch conversion is- sealed beam to H4 bulb in flat-lensed reflectors.

There is only one credible source for all lighting questions and thats Stern Lighting. Look em up. The man knows his physics. I run Cibies and love em. Truck has Hellas. Love em. Be sure to get the E codes, not the made for USA Hellas. And do the proper alignment on the lenses. Also, go look at a Wagner sealed beam vs a Sylvania or GE. Wagner has em beat hands down on the fresnel lens design. Remember, wattage is not equal to lumens. Lumens is how much light you get, watts is how much power it draws. And wavelength determines how well you see in various conditions. Long wave(yellow) is better in fog than is short wave(blue).

Keep the wattage the same and you won't need a new harness. Use a harness for secondary(fog, driving) lights.
