choke wont stay out when cold
just recently my choke doesnt stay pulled out when the car is cold. any ideas? the choke does still work but i have to hold it out manually
any help would be nice |
The magnetic solenoid that holds the lever out is broke. Either not getting any voltage (check for broken wire) or the solenoid itself is no good.

As I stated in your other post, first check the fuse.
hanman |
where is the fuse for it, and what does it look like
|
fuse should be in the fuse box, under the dash.. i donot know which number one it is (but if you see a blown fuse that is probably it)
|
which fuse is it
|
check your manuel. i donot know off hand
|
I beleive its the same fuse as for the 'engine' matter of fact it says 'engine' on the fusebox for that fuse... And If that fuse were blown it wouldnt be running at all. Thats the same fuse that powers the coils and a few other needed things under the hood :)
I got one I removed due to my cosmo swap.. I can sell it to you if you need one :) |
Mike,
Sorry but not true. My car ran fine except the choke didn't work, guess what.......the fuse was blown. I just don't remember which one it was. hanman |
if i rember right on my 81 the choke had a inline glass round fuse and i think its a green wire, its a pain in the ass to get to it is under the dash around the fuse block. also check to see if there is a sencer unpluged in the engine bay. i forgot to plug the 1 in the waterpump back up and had a non sticking chock...pluged it back up BLAM works great.

Yah, I accidentally knocked that fuse out and one morning my choke decided to not stay pulled out. I was all worrying that i was going to have to buy a new choke cable (which contains the magnetic doodad) but I happened to see the fuse hanging out. Popped it back in and all is fine again.

Forgot to say a nickel or a dime works pretty good, turn it sideways and pull the choke out :) Just remember to remove it :)
|
Check the water temp sensor at the front of the engine, near the altenator as well. It has two wires and a plug which attaches to the main emissions harness.
|
A lil trick meanwhile... A quarter workz perfect behind the chock nob. Pullz out just enough. :]
