choke problem with stock carb

ok so i pull the choke knob to warm up the engine. then I push it back in when I am ready 2 go. The idle dose not drop because the choke cabel dosent push back the choke lever on the carb back to where it needs to be. now my question is wtf is wrong? dose the carb have a spring that pulls back on the choke lever that maybe disconnected or is the choke cabel bad? is the choke cabel supper stiff and hard enoghf that it pushes the lever back? please and thanks for any help.

Does the choke plate move freely? When you close it manually does it return to the open position or stay there?

it just stay there and then i have to pop the hood and push back into place.

I understand that, I'm asking if you can manually move the choke plate by hand, not by the cable. If it is just staying closed when you close it and not returning, it is getting stuck or binding up. You need to either clean it to free up the linkage

hey thanks i got togeter with my dad on fathers day and he is so happy that i am looking in to learnig how to fix my own car. he helped me fix the choke just the way you told me to and it was so quik and easy. the thing that took the longest was removeing the air cleaner and putting all the lines back together. so thank for the quick responce. u da man!

ok will do 1st thing tomorrow. hey i am having the same problem with the gas throttle. i was doing some do-nutz and the rev would not drop back down past 2800 rpm. do you think i need to oil some spring on that as well?

FirebirdSlayer666 06-17-08 06:29 PM

It is possible. Also check the lower tension nut on the throttle cable bracket, it may have come loose and is binding the linkage up
