Choke Help...

I have been having a lot of trouble with my choke latley. It hasn't been staying on (or in the "out" posistion) when cold, making it very hard to keep running when first started. It works though, if I keep it held out. ( I know I can use a makeshift wedge, but I would really like to see it working again) The cable and the box have been replaced. It worked for a few days then quit again. It will go on and off and random times. I have checked the thermostat, all of the wires are in place and its not corroded in any way. Could this go bad and still look functional? I'm thinking of just switching it to a manual choke. Do you guys have any idea as to what is wrong? Sorry for long post..thanks for reading

The most common failure of the choke sensor is the wires that come out of it.
Look at the testing procedure for that componenet and test it. The sensor may be bad or one of the 2 wires may be frayed at the bottom.

You can put a jumper wire on the harness to test it. Then the choke handle will always stay out with the key on.

I prefer keeping a spare dime, nickel or penny around myself when I had this problem in my '80...

Since you say you replaced the cable and box maybe its grounding issue for the dash. There's a ground wire for all the dash stuff that is supposed to be there and it connects up under the dash to the firewall. This is all gleaned from just looking at the wiring diagrams.

Any other electrical gremlins with things in the interior?

I'm having the same problem. It works rarely, so I keep a nickel handy.

I haven't been able to find the dash ground, it's probably buried under everything.
