Choke

What’s the correct procedure when starting cold?
Should you pull out choke, start car and bring rpms down
to 2,000 and wait until choke pops back in?

Pull out choke, start car and then drive sensibly until choke pulls in. Don't hammer it while cold is the lesson here. The car will warm up faster driving it than sitting at idle.

BTW, if its going much higher than 2500 rpms then it needs to be adjusted or looked at.

I fixed my cold starting problems today, adjusted all the slack out of the choke cable, I use to have to pump the throttle a whole bunch of times to get it started. Now

with the choke adjusted I pulled the choke out depressed the throttle pedal once and it fired right up.

When I used the choke, I would start the engine and keep it at idle with my foot to allow it to build oil pressure before pulling the choke. I never felt the need to have the engine soar to almost 3000rpm on instant start up with low oil pressure. I would adjust the choke so that the engine ran at 2000rpm. Once the engine is warm, the choke will retract automatically and you should have a nice idle. My car always did. This is just the way I do it, others may feel differently about the procedure.
