Checking coils

Sooo, I wanna confirm that my primary and trailing spark plugs are firing correctly, meaning that the coils are working correctly, but, I don't wanna yank the plugs out and turn the engine over to see if I get a spark coz I'm afraid of flooding it :) - input?

Hook up a timing light to the battery they way its supposed to...And then just attach the signal lead to each individual spark plug wire, and pull the trigger. If the light blinks, your getting spark through the wires. As far as making sure the timing is right, only try and set the timing using the wires the manual says to use, otherwise you'll just mess yourself up :).

Do you need a special timing light to do the timing on the wankel?

No. The only thing to watch out for is if using an advance dial to set the timing the figures need to be doubled.
