Check out my hockey puck engine mounts

Most of you guys are probably aware of this, but for those who aren't, check out the latest installment. I got the supplies and finally put together my hockey puck engine mounts tonight. I just need to paint the steel sandwich plates. I'll let the pictures do the talking. :D I bought the steel plates from this website:

http://www.wagnercompanies.com/disks_and_plates.aspx

The top plates are 3-1/4" diameter 1/4" thick steel discs. The bottom plates are 3-1/4" diameter 1/8" thick discs. Everything gets a 3/8" diameter hole in the middle. Can't wait to try them out. I'm so tired of the 12A rocking around in my engine bay on those crappy old soft mounts.

Those look good! I bet you'll love the results. I sure love mine.

There are times to be painfully anal, and this is not one of them, but you did a superb job and I bow, sir.

Glazedham42 06-02-11 10:29 PM

Haha. Thanks Jeff. Unfortunately, as you can tell I'm a more than a little bit OCD. It's a sickness. I can't do something halfway on Gus. It drives me nuts. :D

Mr_Miles 06-02-11 10:52 PM

I did hockey puck body bushings on my 71 scout II. I loved them.

blwfly 06-02-11 10:54 PM

welcome to the puck club. you did a fine job looks like u payed 100$ for it lol.... i gutted my repu mounts and used pucks cant even tell its been changed

Ferrariferg 06-02-11 11:53 PM

Those look great. I plan to do this eventually. Gotta get the engine running first though.

bmeyer 06-02-11 11:58 PM

Being a hockey player, I really think those are great. I love the creativity of some of the people on here, great job.

I've considered this for years, but I wonder if the metal plates are really necessary. Don't they already sit against a solid metal base without them? Or are they for height correction?

Either way, great work man! How long until you figure she'll be road worthy? Got some great races coming up, and you should definitely shoot for July 2nd/3rd if you can.

.

Glazedham42 06-03-11 11:02 AM

The metal plates really help for height correction, and also to evenly spread the load against the pucks. If you didn't have the height difference to deal with you could probably just stick the pucks in there and be okay. I like to overdesign everything when I do it though, so I don't have to worry about redoing it ever.

The hockey puck engine mounts are cool too, because you can rebuild them for $2-3 if necessary in the future. Just put a new puck in between the steel plates and you're done!

LMAO! I just used some washers with the pucks. It says right on them that they're official, so they must be good.
This is a great, cheap, $8 mod everyone should do. I love mine.

wow my thread sure did grow..

Jeff20B 06-03-11 11:13 PM

As awesome as these puck mounts are, I still went with competition mounts from RB in my REPU. :) Also went with a competition tranny mount. My rocking engine and shuddering clutch ought to be a thing of the past now.

DivinDriver 06-04-11 11:42 AM

Don Rickles would be proud, sir. (obtuse old comedian reference, meant as compliment)

I'm wondering; why didn't you just cut out your paper centering template, put in on top the steels, and make your punchmark through the paper? Seems easier.

dbragg 06-04-11 01:47 PM

Just picked up two pucks today for less than $5. Going to try to make these and install them next week.

I have seen a lot of people go with dual nuts on these. Would a lock nut and lock washer not be suffice?

justinfox 06-05-11 10:38 AM

That's such a cool idea! I've seen hockey puck lift kits for trucks but never engine mounts. I know what I'm doing if my mounts go.

snivley whiplash 06-05-11 08:05 PM

been running mine since I got the car, just slight vibration but love the solid engine mounting

dbragg 06-07-11 03:10 PM

Just installed mine today. Very cheap and easy modification, and should work a lot better than my busted old mounts. Now I just need to get the car back on the road.

is this rubber or hard plastic?

Glazedham42 11-09-11 07:50 AM

The pucks are hard rubber.
