cd deck installation
 

hey guys ive got an aiwa cdc-x227 cd deck in my fb and it mounted where the storage compartment below the ashtray was (cut to fit), and i got a new dashconsole with the hole for the deck above the ashtray
well the deck it to wide to fit up there... what have you guys done o fit them in there and properly mount them so they can not be taken out easily......

all help is appriceated

with mine i made 2 'L' brakets that bolt into the side of deck and then to the metal frame. DONT use the basket if u dont want it to be easy to take out..
to get mine out u have to take off the middle plastic part but to get that out u have to take out the glove box and the plastic around the stering coloms. so its not easy..

With mine, I just took a Dremel tool and went around the edges of the factory radio opening until the outer "chassis" of the radio (you know, the flimsy little one that goes in first?) Was a VERY snug fit. That's all that's really holding it and supporting it. Almost 9k miles later over some REALLY rough roads and it hasn't cracked the panel yet.. Here's a shot..

djmikya's car is an 84-85 where the whole stereo was held into a separate cage that pulls out of the dash. That's why it looks different.

I filed the console hole just large enough to fit the CD player. At the back, I made an L-shaped bracket that screws into the sheet metal above and holds onto the back of the deck.

Although I made mine hard to remove, I sometimes question the logic in doing this. If someone breaks into your car for the radio, they'll break everything they need to to get it out. It may be cheaper just to let them have it.
