Case Closed for Pulstar Plugs?
 

Perhaps this is the proverbial nail in the coffin for the elusive and questionable 'Pulstar Spark Plugs?' And an end to the question of whether or not they are worth the trouble in rotaries such as ours?

Seems that the Pulstar do provide some benefit... but at a $25 price tag its definitely not worth the trouble.

Anybody else have any thoughts or other tests of these spark plugs or others?

I would not use 'em.

Mazda says use NGK's in the engine they perfected, I think I'll listen. Interesting info though. Surprising to see an actual difference in power from just a spark plug.

I saw the ad for the Pulstar plugs in Popular Sci magazine. They claim to use a capacitor to increase the voltage (I think) of the spark, which ignites more fuel faster, etc. etc. If this is anywhere near true, one would think, if any engine could benefit from this it would be our rich-running incomplete combusting 12a. From what I could tell, they don't make em for our engine anyway. Am I wrong?

I tried the expensive "good" plug once in a car I had. 97 Ford T-Bird with the 4.6L V8. No noticeable increase in power, no noticeable increase in fuel mileage, and my $80 worth of spark plugs burned up within 20 000 KM. They were Bosch Platinum +2's btw. After that I put stock Champions back in at $3 a plug instead of $10. I've never run anything but NGK in my 7 though.

I am probably going to stick with NKG's... I was surprised to find out that those plugs actually made some difference.

I agree with the idea that a good spark plug will make combustion better, but a great ignition system will be more important.

Ngk + Msd Ftw

Being expendable, I'd rather use cheap plugs (Densos for me) and a really good MSD/coil setup with direct fire on the leading side rather than buy expensive plugs and have them foul up or fail because I'm hard on them.
