Carter fuel pumps

Where are you guys mounting the carter fuel pump without having it sitck out from the body so much that you have to be careful of speed bumps.

Pics would be nice. ;)

On the arched part of the rear subframe, almost at axle level.

i mounted mine in the driver's side storage bin ... (since then i've adopted a Buddhist chant for sanity's sake, because the buzz drives me loopey!!!!! :D)

at some point i hope to move it under the car though ... :D

Thanks. That is pretty much where I put mine, but not as far back, I guess I should move it. I see some red bushings there. Did you replace yours if so, what package/kit did you get?

error402 08-28-02 12:11 AM

also what is that white container at the top middle of the picture. (not the fuel filter).

Yeah, just a bushing replacement. Nothing fancy....yet. :D

It's another filter.
I'm running two filters. One before the pump (stock filter), and one after (a filter from some other car that fit great)

lol :D

It's a purolator filter I got at pepboys, I dont know what car it's for, but the purolator number is F29158

I made it so the stock fuel pump mount (without the pump) houses the filter purfectly. Here's a shot with the cover off:

FD Racer you've been a great help. Thanks. :)

When mounting the pump on the frame (like in the picture), is everyone using 90 degree fittings or could I use the fittings with the pump.

Thanks,
Mark

I'm using straight fittings...which i don't recommend. I will be picking up 90 degree bend ones in a few days and installing those instead.

FD Racer 08-28-02 01:15 AM

The ones that come with the pump are 3/8" hose, not the needed 5/16"

SilverRocket 08-28-02 02:11 AM

I used 90* fittings... and I also used 3/8 hose. Worked fine for me, I just clamped everything down real good. No leaks. Oh, and I mounted in pretty much the same place as you guys.

REVHED 08-28-02 03:07 AM

Nice... that's where I have mine. :D

Don't see the point in running a second filter right after the pump though. If anything I'd put one in the engine bay right before the regulator.

error402 08-28-02 10:19 AM

Has anyone had any problems with their Carter fuel pump getting hit by rocks or getting destroyed totally?

Jeff20B 08-28-02 01:16 PM

Well, you've convinced me. I'm getting a Carter. No more Facet for me!

Man, what a shame...:(

SilverRocket 08-28-02 01:24 PM

Better to have a rusty old pump you found in the junkyard, eh Mar?

:)

Scalwag! It came off of a running Furd 351. The old Mallory is a little beat up, but I'm sure it'll do the job when it gets in 'CBird...;) And be much quieter and pulse-free as well...

inittab 08-28-02 01:38 PM

So the Mallory won't make much noise?

the whole point of a gerotor style pump of any kind...minimal vibration or resonating...

SilverRocket 08-28-02 03:02 PM

I'll take my shiny, ridiculously loud Carter over that old thing anyday:)

mar3 08-28-02 03:33 PM

Ahhh, but I also have a nice shiny, new Mallory Comp110 slated for the P/S FBird....;)
