Cartech Wastegate
 

Does anyone know what other spring I could use in a old Cartech wastegate? Called Cartech and they said they no longer make wastegates nor springs, and they couldnt suggest what other springs that would fit. They mentioned that the springs they normally put in their wastegates were 8lbs springs and I am only going to boost 5psi untill I get extra injectors put in. The flange used on the Cartech wastegate is the same as a Tial 38mm wastegate, but I am unsure of the diameter of the Tial wastegate springs to know if it will seat properly. Any suggestions or ideas?

so the stock spring is 8lbs right? and you only want to boost 5? until later? . take the spring out.

two bad you dont have a turbo with a built in wastegate like the tII 89-81, im just wiring the flap open. >=]

You cant take the spring out of a external wastegate....The only thing that would be controlling boost would be the diaphram.

I went to a hardware store and bought a different spring for it and cut to fit. another trick is to connect a vacuum line to the side nipple and leave the top one off. This will push the diaphram open when your boosting - so you would be boosting less.

The original CarTech systems used a Rajay wastegate. The Rajay wastegates had an adjustment nut on the top. You could just use the 8lb spring and adjust it to open at 5lbs. Unless you really need to rebuild the wastegate leave the 8lb spring and use the adjustment nut. I believe that the Deltagate is only a copy of the Rajay and the parts may (and I stress the may) be interchangeable. Rajay turbos and wastegates are still available in the aircraft industry. Contact a supplier of turbos for aircraft use and you'll probably find what you need.
