Carburetor, Rebuild, Disassembly

The carburetor is off of a 1983 12a engine and following the Haynes manual, which is not accruate for this mdl year, most of the components have been removed.

The problem is how to best split the major sections apart where the gaskets have nearly glued it together. I have gently tried to drive a gasket scraper between the sections but am concerned this may damage the mating surfaces. Please let me know the best method of spliting the components apart.

Also, can new carb parts be found or purchased? Removal of the fuel inlet components found an incredible amount of corrosion and rust powder. I am amazed the engine could run at all with all the garbage in there.

One last item, one of the screws used to secure a small diaphram actuator has a damaged slot head. Any ideas as to how this can be removed. I have tried heat applied to the area around the screw and much Liquid Wrench with out success.

Best regards,
THC

Did you pull the center post where the air cleaner attaches? Takes a 14mm wrench.

On the screw thats bad, take a flat screwdriver and hit it with a hammer. Then get a set of high leverage pliers and grip the head of it, and try to turn it. Cross fingers it might work :D

once you take out the center screw they should just pull apart. make sure and soak the parts. easiest way is a 5 gallon bucket with a gallon of carb cleaner and the rest gas. you can always use an easy out on that screw. i had to when i pulled mine apart.
