Carburetor Gaskets
 

I'm reassembling my carburetor now and I just compared the old gasket between the throttle body and main body to the new one. New one is about .003" thinner without being used. Should I use the new one? Also for the plastic spacer, I see that there are gaskets bonded to it. I know I should keep them there but do I add the one in the kit along side it?

1) the new gaskets are too thin to use. If you can reuse your old gasket, do that. Or use the new one as a template and cut yourself a new gasket from thick paper like I do. I only punch the holes I actually use. The aftermarket gaskets are universal so have all holes punched which is not necessary but you kinda have to know which holes do what.

2) DO NOT use any of those silly spacer gaskets. You are just asking for trouble if you do.

3) I hope you didn't use the aftermarket needles and seats.

I was planning on using the new needles with the old seats because I had really bad flooding problems. Is that not ok?

It is ok if you burnish them on the back of a spoon.

What thickness of gasket paper is usable if I made one? I got 1/16" but that seems like its way too thick

I had great success recently by adding shellac to the throttle body gasket to aid the seal. Painted it on, gave it few to tack up and installed it.

it works great, just don't apply it too thick or you'll block restrictions
