Carb Turbo Kits

Does anyone have any information on the BAE and RAYJAY turbo kits that were made and offered in the 80's for the stock 12a carb motors. There's one on e-bay I want to purchase - but I want to know more info before I bid on it.

I have one that I'm holding until the end of the month, then its open to be sold again. It supports about 250hp and is a blowthrough setup with an external wastegate. I have the manifold for the 12a that comes with the turbo. perfect_circle has claimed it until the end of this month so if he doesnt want it after that then its open.

How much money are we talking, you selling the whole kit?(everything needed to bolt it on and go)

good question. how much do you want for the complete set up?i'm intrested

The BAE / Rajay / Arkay turbo kits are not blow thru, they are drawthru (suck mixture through the turbo). They cannot be intercooled and are sometimes difficult to start.
They use the stock carb but they were available with an optional Holley.
My guess is that the stock carb will not supply enough fuel and kill your engine rather quickly.
I have a magazine with a test of the BAE turbo kit and performance was said to be very good but engines did not last longer than 30000miles.
The only good carbureted turbo kits are the Cartech kits with Weber IDF carbs.

so ur saying that with the BAE turbo manifold...its not possible to make a blow-through turbo setup....it has to be a draw-through.....which one creates better horsepower?...draw-through vs blow-through.....i just purchased a BAE turbo manifold to make a blow-through turbo 12a...will this manifold not work for the setup i want to run.....thanks....parker

It is what it is

I am glad its a guess multirotor cus it aint right the kit was to be used with the stock carb but with modifications Ill list a few.

Remove one of the secondary main fuel jets drill it out using .076-.078 bit.
Remove secondary vacuum actuator that controls secondary butterfly, pull out spring strech to ½ to ¾ longer.
Lower float level .25mm lower than stock.
Remove incline vapor valve.
Replace stock fuel pump new one should be 5psi
Plugs-NGKB8et 1981 and later use stock
Other mods are done to the carb spacer

The turbo manifold is the same for a blowthru and a drawthru.

The intake manifold is different as the blowthru will have to take a carb (as in an NA setup) while the drawthru will simply be a turbo-outlet-to-engine manifold (drawthru means the carb is mounted before the turbo).
Both the BAE and the Arkay kit use an adapter that is mounted below the stock carb which is then linked to the turbo intake with a U shaped connector to the turbo inlet.

Good information, tunafish.
Are you driving one or are you selling one ?

Iam drivin one

But its the BAE version that was sold by Pacific Turbo years ago defintley different then the one on E-bay but the the turbo and waastgate are rayjay.
I am driving it I wouldnt sell it I love it. I know many people dislike the draw through but when it spools up between 2500 and 3000 it takes off like a rocket. I have a 3inch stainless steel exhaust straight back to a turbo muffler nice growl and screems when ruuning through gears. The instructions warn about dumping the clutch from a dead stop, that there have been cases of the rear lug nuts being sheered off. I am still trying to do it.

Anex 570 02-18-05 11:25 PM

I'm not gonna say it again, its a blowthrough, if you want pics or prices when it becomes availible, then email me anexrx7@usermail.com . This is IF the guy cant get it. I'm not asking an arm and leg, around the $300 for all. But this guy has it claimed till the end of the month, but if you wanna send me your info go ahead.

nopiston_racer 02-19-05 12:24 AM

well i guess ill ask this to follow up with my first question.....im running the BAE turbo manifold...and im setting it up for a blow-through setup....now im running a Holley carb....can i use the RB Holley intake for this setup....are there any additional pieces of equipment that i will need to make the setup work....exlcluding items like oil lines, return lines, and that...im talking more like carb spacer, different intake.....thanks...parker

Anex 570 02-19-05 12:30 AM

I believe you'll have about about everything, the only part im not sure about is if the RB intake sticks out too far or not. I know for a fact the the 79 mani and the turbo together fit perfect. If anything, you might have to go with some custom spacers to push the turbo out a little if you wanna run holley. I have heard that you cant go wrong with the IDA setup though. You'll wanna run a rissing rate fuel pressure regulator btw, just adding that incase you didnt know. If you want, IM me and I'll talk with ya about anymore questions you get.

FB II 02-19-05 12:54 AM

yea, if you use the rb holley intake then you'll have to push the turbo out more.

perfect_circle 02-19-05 05:50 PM

anex...do you have a wastegate to go with the turbo, if not, just sell it. i cant afford a wastegate, but if you do ave one i'll take it.

Anex 570 02-19-05 07:45 PM

No I dont bro.. I didnt get a wastegate yet, but greg did have one I was gonna get before I got my SE... Sorry dude.

I have put my picture collection of BAE / Rajay / Arkay stuff online here:

Some pictures were copied from Ebay, so I hope I am not offending anyone here.
