Carb for Turbo?
 

Im getting ready in the next month to start my turbo 12a conversion....with the conversion im staying carb'd and ive been debating between the 575cfm and 600cfm holley carb...or a mikuni.....has anyone taken these carbs and ever tested them to see the actual horsepower gains.....ive been researching and talking to a lot of people and so far ive heard that the mikuni will add 30+ while the holley only adds around 20+.....if anyone can give me some solid advice on the carb for choice ill be greatly appreciative....parker

What size mikuni? I think those are 44's, which might be to small. A weber 48 would work great. Plus either a weber or a holley would make it very easy to change to EFI later if you wanted, since you can buy a throttle body that should bolt right up to your carb hat and intake manifold.

right now im goin to stick with carb....but the EFI is some good input...never really thought about doing a throttle body and doing the FI that way....thanks for expanding the thought process......also another thing is that i want the car to run smooth when cruisin in like 5th gear...i really dont want that much sputtering....in a way i want it to kinda sleep on people so that when i drop a gear and give it some gas i tear past them making them really wonder what their messing with.....

another note is that i heard that the holley is good b/c it runs smooth low and high end....with this being a daily driver that is a very big situation b/c i dont want it running high end all the time and burning so much gas i have to fill up everytime i go to the store....thanks for the quick response.....wow u live in Lima...u know where Bryan is? ill be there in February......well im off to do more researching....parker

I wish I could say that a turbo weber will run smooth for sure, but I could never get mine to. But my problem was my motor was a POS and was way down on compression. In a month or two I'll have a new motor in my 7 and I'll finally be able to actually tune it. My last motor didn't even have enough compression to burn all the fuel, so it did some very weird things, but it would still run a high 13 :) Holleys run smooth, and so does a well modded nikki carb. But I think the weber makes more power than both of them.

Yeah, unfortunatly I live in Lima. The college I'm at (University of Northwestern Ohio) is awesome for high performance auto, but Lima sucks. I havn't heard of Bryan, which direction is it from lima?

i have done blow-through mikuni carbs before and they work great!!!
since its a 44mm the driveability will be good and since your blowing boost through the carb, the size dosnt really matter... as far as tuning goes, the mikuni is a fairly simple carb, so you wont have much trouble tuning it...

mikuni would be my choice!!

the webers run smooth, but you need a good motor to go with it!!! lol

i ran a 50mm webber&13b i got from him and it ran fairly smooth.
i also got about 20-25mpg when driving on the hwy.
i got about 12mpg when hauling ass.

well the streetported 12a that im getting is going to be a fresh build with 0 miles on it....thats y i need a solid carb.....everything goin into the engine bay is goin to be new or used and waiting for a new part to replace it.......

and the im learning?....i am but not really....i just wanted more opinions on the matter....for the most part i already have my setup and im goin to be putting it together here in the near future......when it comes to carb's im a bit new but not retarded new.....i just wanted to hear more advice about them prior to me dropping $500+ on a carb and manifold...and then come to find out i wanted something different...now im out that $500+......so im trying to save me a little bit of time and work as i dont have much before i head to Iraq......thanks for the advice tho....parker
