should i get a professional to re-tune my carb? or is it something i probably could do on my own?

You should be able to do it on your own without too much trouble and a bit of knowledge. Just learn how changing the jets/air bleeds effects how the carb regulates the fuel flow and you should be fine. It's just trial and error until you find the perfect combination.
