carb trouble
 

I just installed a set of dual weber 36dcd carbs, and I can't get the car started. I don't think I am getting any fuel into the barrels. Should I see fuel being squirted in when the throttle cable is pulled like the Nikki?

I pulled the fuel line off the carbs, and tested the fuel pump, I'm getting a nice constant flow, yet I still don't see any going to the barrels.

When I spray some engine starter down the primaries, I can get the engine running for about half a second.

Anyone know whats going on? Any help is appreciated.

For the record, I really hate those "purolator" style regulators, they cannot flow enough at high rpm and will lean you motor out. I threw mine out a long time ago after I noticed fuel starvation at high rpm. The Holley regulator costs about the same amount and works a million times better. If you just bought that one, order the holley and then return the purolator when you get your package in the mail.

Now onto the issue at hand, let me see a pic of the other side of the carbs so I can see where all the lines come from and go to. Did you try pulling a bowl drain like I asked to see if there is fuel in the carb?

Is that bolt the one for the fuel bowl?

That's the one. What's the regulator's dial set to? Is that rust on your inner fender? How is the return line plumbed?

Regulator is on 4 psi for now. The nasty looking stuff on the fender is actually some sort of rustproofing wax the prev. owner put on there. If you scrape a bit off, its really shiny underneath, lol. And, I didnt think i needed a return line, I capped it off at the firewall...

Your charcoal canister looks like it's hooked up, so your vent line should still be open, which means the return line being capped shouldn't matter (I think...). You could take the gas cap off and see if it makes any difference, but that wouldn't explain the flow you're seeing past the regulator already. You're going to have me thinking about this all night.

I can't figure it out either... but I will try taking the gas cap off tomorrow. Won't be able to do anything until after work. So, I'll be home at 7:30 and will start trying some stuff then.

Okay, so I dodged off work early to get working on the car.

I disconnected piece by piece on the fuel line, making sure I was getting fuel. I was.

After disconnecting..reconnecting..disconnecting..and wasting a few litres of gas, the left carb shoots gas from the accelerator pump nozzle
(only on the primary side)...

Still not sure whats wrong.. but at least I think i'm getting closer.

Alright, I pulled off that 10mm nut on the bowls again. The left carb spilled some fuel, the right is dry as a bone.

Should I try some carb cleaner?

I tried something stupid for the sake of it, I removed the fuel elbow feeding the 2nd carb, and plugged the line straight in, and held it there while blocking off the line to the first carb. The pressure built up, and fuel started rushing into the carb. Stopped the pump, hooked the lines back up. Both bolts had fuel, cranked her up, started first try :D. Had to shut it off within 15 seconds though, after realizing my fpr is leaking....time to get a holley one.
