carb swap? good or no
 

Hey guys, I've got an 88' TII that i am working on getting back on the road and I've been considering doing a carb set up on. I thought that I'd ask here since you guys would have more opinions on carbs.

The engine is out right now for a coolant seal replacement (I bought the car with the blown seal) and after looking over the wiring I'm a little afraid. the wiring is corroded, dried out, and spliced. I'm afraid that this ancient wiring will give out under boost and I'll be looking for a new engine. so I'm of looking for other ways.. first idea was a v8 swap (5.0ho) but I'm very unimpressed with the overpriced understrength transmission options so that is out.

I've been considering a megasquirt set up which I know can be better potentially...but it's intimidating and how good it winds up is dependent on my ability to tune it.

So I've come to carbs, I've done some reading and found streetport carb set ups making 180whp, about the same as a somewhat built 13bt. I used to have a GSL-SE that made much less than that but man was it fun (I miss that car like it's my job). I know enough to know that a 13bt making the same power has a much easier and cheaper potential for bigger power than a carbby sp engine, but I like the simplicity of the carb set up idea.

I know what would be needed to do this I'm just looking for opinions from guys that run carb set ups.. in a non-power steering, non-ac, no frills car would these be worth it? I think that it would be fun, simple and reliable. I would like to get the car on the road with this and enjoy rather than waiting for the funds to do a standalone. maybe someday I could re-turbo it too with a blow through setup!

I guess I'm just looking for opinions and maybe some numbers that have been made

i say go blow through with a weber and throw all the wires and ecu in the garbage.. there are lots of examples here

yeah I know that you are the man when it comes to this stuff...I was thinking more of a holley. how hard is it for average joe to tune a blow through holley?

i wouldnt know.. i dont know shit about holley carbs... i know they work though.. besides the holley wont clear your s4 or s5 turbo , the weber uses the stock lower so fitment is not an issue
