Carb Rebuild Kit Question
 

I'm rebuilding my Nikki carb for my '80 GS, and had a few questions about kits. I've already purchased a rebuild kit from Victoria British, but unfortunately it only includes gasket paper washers, which from what i've read, SUCK. I did some research on the forums, and what I found was that all 1st gen carbs are the same. Why then, does Mazdatrix offer rebuild kits (with aluminum washers) for 81-85 but not for 79-80? Will the 81-82 kit work on my '80? Also, I know Autozone sells kits, but they're cheap and I'm guessing that they have the same crappy paper washers, so I was wondering if anyone has had experience with these. Lastly, if anyone knows of a better kit than what I've mentioned, please let me know. Thanks!

I don't know about the Autozone kits or the Mazdatrix kits, but I too bought a kit from VB and won't do that again! I then bought a kit from my local Advance Auto Parts store and it was much better. Also, I've never bought a carb kit from RockAuto.com, but everything that I have bought from them has been top notch, so that might be worth a try.

The paper gaskets are not model specific. You have to purchase a better ki for the aluminum crush washers.
However, if you're careful, you can reuse the old ones with good success.

Most low-end kits will simply include everything you need for 79 through 85 carbs.
GP Sorensen kits have the aluminum crush washers, but they are pricey.

I used the autozone kit and it had aluminum washers in it , my carb is working fine. But i had two base gaskets in the kit that didnot even match up to it , but i was told that the kit was used on some ford cars and / or trucks carbs.

I got the GP Sorenson kit from AutoZone for $22

i did the same as Tonyw. Good deal.
