Carb Problems..
 

So i have a 83 gsl and since last week ive been having problems with the carb. It is a stock nikki.

i feel it running real sluggish once on the throttle and it will not rev over about 3500rpm.. Also once you step on the throttle it bogs down to the point where the engine will shut off. Basically if i put the gas pedal to the floor instantly from idling it will bog down real low in rpm then arise.

So does anyone know what could be wrong? If so please let me know, for my rx7 is my daily for work and college.

Step one; check the throttle sub-return mechanism to make sure it has not tripped (also known as the teeter-totter). If it's not in the reset position it makes throttle heavier and some say it can block the secondaries from opening.

Sounds like it may only be running on the idle circuit or the accelerator pump is not functioning. I
would try changing the fuel filter, running some seafoam through it to see if that fixes it up.
Otherwise you may need to pull it and rebuild.

You should see gas spray down the primaries as you rev it up. If its not or it's barely trickling out
then you have some sort of blockage somewhere. Also sounds like your secondaries may be
working ok based on the flooring it and it slowly recovers.

Time to pull the carb and do a rebuild. Clogged jets and some of the things listed above can cause your issue. Its far easier just to pull the carb and clean it and replace the gaskets, crush washers, seals, and the accelerator pump rather than trying to mess with it on the car. Inevitably you will clean one section on the car and then another will need attention.
