Carb primary dripping gas

83 rx-7 automatic coming back to life, except for carb problem making me crazy. With key on, gas drips from the rear (firewall) primary main air bleed only. Other primary ok. Carb has been overhauled, new needle & seats, gaskets, etc. Floats checked 3 times. Fuel pump pressure approx. 4 psi. What am I missing??????

Has this run at all since the carb works been done? Maybe you have just the back float sticking. But it sounds like your problem is back there whether adjustment or just stuck. One of those things pull it apart find nothing put it back together and it runs fine.

Yep, sounds like the rear float is either set too high or there's crud on the needle and seat. If you can, get a mechanic's mirror and check the sight glass - the fuel should be halfway up.

4psi is a *little* high but there shouldn't be a problem.

Alternatively, it's possible that the throttle shaft is twisted a little and it's allowing too much air through for that barrel.

The same thing happens to me every time I reinstall my carb. Here's a trick that may help assuming that everything else is adjusted correctly. This is what I did...

After the carb has filled itself and it begins dripping fuel as you described, turn off the key and pull the fuel hoses off the carb. Plug the delivery hose with something (I used a 1/4" socket extention, it fit perfectly). Try to start the car, you'll probably have to keep your foot on the accelerator because you'll be burning a VERY rich mixture. Keep the car running until it empties all the fuel in the bowls of the carb and dies. Turn the key off. Now reconnect your fuel lines and turn the key back on. The fuel level should return to the proper level about halfway up the sightglass. If not, you may need to try again. I had to do it three times in a row on my last reinstall, but eventually it fixed itself.

I only suggest this because it worked for me. Good luck!

what is the car idling at rpm?

car was idling around 800-900 prior to minor fuel contamination (gaak in replacement tank, caught by glass fuel filter at carb) which prompted this carb overhaul in the first place.

might have some of that gaak in the seat keeping the needle from shutting off the gas......oops. never mind, i just read that u had the carb overhauled,,,,,sorry,,,

Yes, I know. It comes off again tonight and I hope that is what I find.
I did eliminate the tank & lines by mating a gas tank (red portable kind) with a RX-7 fuel pump. I had one rusty tank, now gone, & and replaced it with one that was supposed to be cleaned & good (including receipts for $300) which turned out to still have this gaak in it.
Anyways, I suppose I should have replaced the glass fuel filter BEFORE cranking it over. I know I had good clean gas to the filter and a newly overhauled carb after the filter so .......................
