carb help

ok, i've removed everything from my carb except for the throttle cable. but this leaves all those floppy brackets in there so i want to get rid of them.

how can i set up the linkage to only activate the primary, secondary, and accelerator pump? which parts of the original linkage will i still need to use.

and is there another way yo actuate the secondaries? i've heard of mechanical..but i'm not clear on how that's different from what the current setup is.

thanks...if you need more details/pics just ask.

Take the carb right off, and set it on a piece of 2x4 on a workbench or picknic table (On paper so you don't lose shit).
Clean it up, and take some digy shots of the linkage...like about a hundred shots.
Then, you can remove the linkage pieces one by one, and set them down in order.
Rebuild the carburetor linkage substituting flatwashers for the linkage parts you don't want.
Many are freely moving on metal spacers that can be put back on minus the linkage part, and really only a few washers are needed to fill in any spaces on the shaft.

-The idea is to get everything lined up just the way it was. If you don't you'll have problems.

umm..can anyone take a pic of their linkage :D

a view from the other side would be nice...i'm trying to figure out what fully opens the secondaries at this point.

is it possible to ALWAYS run with the secondaries open??

K-Tune 03-12-04 04:46 PM

ok got everything back together.

but i've often seen a mod called mechanical secondaires. i tried searching...is there a writeup? or is it such a simple mod that it doesn't require a write up?

No way Jose. The secs should only come open after a certain point of primary throttle opening.

What did you use to keep the linkage steady? The bushings from the unused stuff works great. Theres a long winded (thanks Sterling :p: ) write up on here on the mech secondaries. Search for "whats more fun than a barrel full of monkeys"

i'll work on that after i figure out what's going on.

with everything reassembled, the throttle linkage works fine. but my secondaries are NOT opening.

in stock form, what opens them? or tells them when to open?

if i can figure out the mech secondaries, i'll just do that.

i wish sterling had a pic of the wire tie in his mech. secondaries explenation :p:

I'm not doin' it!
Search, my friend, and you shall find!
Vacuum secondaries don't open by themselves. (They need...vacuum. ;) )

K-Tune 03-12-04 09:18 PM

lol i figured it out.

almost got everything working properly now.

thanks for all the help guys!

is there any specific item you used to plug the vacuum hole? you said something plastic or rubber in the tutorial. i can't find anything the right size to stuff in there.

Uhmmm, use your imagination!
How about the bullet from a 22 shell? A lead fishing wieght?

These things can be tapped in LIGHTLY (...please remove bullet from shell casing  ) and they will seal the hole, and can be removed later on.

Fuck, I dunno! Jam any-friggin-thing in there!
It's not a source for a vacuum leak. It just will let some unfiltered air into the carb.

Hell, even duct tape might work if you could get it to stay!
