I am looking for a shop in the Austin area to rebuild the nikki carb off my '85. Any suggestions?

Send it to Sterling or Carl in the 1stgen tech board...lot better option than $350 rebuild plus $200 labor that the shop will hit you with...;)

Yeah, Mario is right... And if you want more performance out of it... they can do that too..... really good deal for what they ask.... PM them....

lol...if he's like the typical 1stgen'r, he's not rolling in the $$$ like yourself, C...that Weber is a great idea but he'd need $450 just to get in the game and that's not counting the fuel pump and regulator he'd have to buy to feed the beast...:cool:

What do they charge for the NIkki work? Do they mod it like I have heard it can modded?

I believe its in the $350 dollar range and they do a lot of the Yaw mods and some they have improved on/Yaw doesnt do.

used Holley 650 doulbe pumper from a small block chevy powered austin healey-- Free:D

oh- and i have this strange adapter left over to put any 12a manifold on a 13b 6port if anyone needs it for some very strange combinations:confused: :scratch:

You'll have to PM Sterling or Rx7carl for the latest prices, but here's this tidbit....your typical Nikki flows about 300 cfm with the factory air cleaner and that small snorkel, about 315 cfm without. Paul was in the 425 cfm range....Sterling just had his latest carb hit 450 cfm corrected on Carl's flowbench....the raw number was 471 cfm, I believe....they'll do a stock rebuild with no tricks but tricked out appearance-wise, nonetheless, if that's what you want...:cool:

Fantastic! What kind of mods did you ask for or did you go with the basic stock rebuild? If you get the airflow increase mods, make sure your exhaust is up to the task...;)

Yaw, the only one I know who did dyno work on various 12As and published them, had a ceiling of about 150 HP vs. the stock 100 HP at the flywheel when using a modded Nikki and good exhaust but with the 12A block itself only having stockports...the big gains are when you run a Sterling carb with a streetport and good exhaust...THAT I'd like to get on a dyno to see what kind of numbers it'd kick out...:)

I went all out and am getting the top end mod. I am keeping the choke and the A.C. thing. Other than that, all emmisions must go, all for $320. I just finnished pulling off the rats nest/air pump, picked up a racing beat exhaust that I'm gonna slap on soon, and since the car ain't running now anyway, I'm switching to an electric fan.

Has the engine been streetported or is it still stock?

fuel pump, regulator? (dunno if you need it or not... )

make sure your ignition is up to date...

Engine is still stock, no $$$'s for porting yet. According to Sterling, a new poump and regulator is a must, so I'll be getting them this week. Still running stock ignitioon, any suggestions?

Ignition would be next on my list - dlidfis, 2gdfis, or msd dfi setup.

Well, if he's still stock, then I'd say just replace the plugs and get some fat ignition wires like Accel's 300+ series and a good distributor rotor and cap, like Bosch. That should do the trick w/o getting needlessly complicated for 3 or 4 HP....if he ever streetports it or if he gets juice, then I'd say definitely step up to the DLIDFIS plate... ;)

Already got the accel's and a new cap and rotor. the plugs were relatively new when I bought the car 5 months ago.

I agree the dlidfis can get a little complicated but the 2gdfis and the msd direct fire is very simple and straight forward. Id go 2gdfis if on a budget VERY simple to install and some good results. Not only will it give ya extra ponies it smoothes out your idle and improves gas mileage.

It's a good reason for emissions and mileage concerns, but with a stockport, you won't feel a difference that justifies introducing more things that can go wrong....not to be mean or anything, but is the sad face next to a car that has been direct-fired?

No not mean its an assumption that my car is slow even with the direct fire msd setup. Pardon me if i decided to not put my water fountain coolant leak mod in my modlist :). The direct fire on my car has kept my car starting for the past couple months when the stock ignition would have laughed in my face. The ignition modifications are not that expensive and pay for themselves in the long run. When the new motor goes in ( stockport so ya know) we will see what happens. Ya got any stockport 7 numbers down yet? Im curious as to what ya run.

We only have an 1/8th mile close to here...when the weather gets good, the '83 and the 84 are going to see some track time to get an idea of how they run flat-out stock and then with a little juice on the '83...then it'll be electric fan conversion time for the '83...dyno runs are scheduled for the '83 prior to track day and then after the fan conversion to see wht kind of gains are really seen at the rear wheels...these are all stockport 12As, however, not 13Bs....:(
