Which Carb?

I've got a 1980 RX sitting in in my garage, and it hasn't been run in about 7 years. No doubt the carb has gummed up like mad. While I was going to do an engine teardown anyways, I figured I was going to replace the carb entirely. I was thinking along the lines of a low(er) end holley, weber or dellorto. I looked in their advice sections, and couldn't figure out how those numbers fit with the rotory engine. So basically, I need help figuring out which model to get, and how much it will improve performance. Thanks a lot!

For a stock port, get a Weber/Dellorto 45 or Holley 465. If you plan on porting your engine get a weber/dellorto 48 or 50.

Would a Holley 4777 Double Pump 650 work? Just wondering.

Nope too big, even for a streetported engine.

I had a Dellorto set-up, but admit I never installed it. Just too hard to find spares for. Am thinking personnally of getting a Paul Yaw version of my Nikki, which seems to be a good upgrade, ported or not (???). Yaw.com if you want to see it.

I doubt that when you try to start that engine you'll have any compression.

I'll bet you'll wind up dragging that thing behind a pickup truck rolling the motor at 4000 RPM for a while with ATF in it before you get any compression.

Good Luck. As far as carbs go 6 of one half dozen of the other. The Holley, Delorto, Nikki, Weber are all great carbs. Saw a RX with a Edlebrock on it not too long ago too!

Let us know how the car repair goes on a car that sits up so long.

Good luck with getting a carb from Yaw anytime soon according to most posts on here about it. Try contacting Sterling or RX7Carl instead for a modded Nikki.

Myself, I'm going with something that is even harder to find parts for. A dual Mikuni PHH setup.

Hey Stu! Didint know you were on here. If Yaw turns out unobtainalbe, feel free to contact Sterling or myself for a carby. :)
