Car Stalling
 

Hello,

I have an 82 GSL and I have been having this issue for quite some time now. Whats been happing is when Im crusing down a long strech at like 3500 to 4500 RPM and then I hit the cluch to have the car come back to idle, The tach flies right down to 0 rpm ( a dead drop) and stalls. Ill put the car in Nuetral nd start the engine and all will be good. for the rest of the ride. does any one have any recommendations on what I can check to cure this issue??

I am running MSD drirect fire with 2nd gen coil, Rats nest removed.

I have a similar problem. still haven't found the issue. Thought it was the MSD box so I removed it. It ran a little smoother, but still stalls out and won't idle below 1500 at best. Sorry wish I could be more help.

You might want to soak her in some seafoam over night. There are a lot of ways to do it, just a quick search and see if it helps. Can't hurt to try. I just did it and I'm very happy with the results.

Yep.

You could try adjusting the deceleration dashpot (I think that's what it's called). Behind the carb, the easiest way to describe it is that it looks like a little UFO / saucer. When you let off the gas abruptly, it's supposed to slow the throttle release gently to idle.

It won't solve whatever the underlying problem is, but might be enough to keep you from stalling.

If you try the Seafoam (which I highly, HIGHLY, recommend), then just dump it in the gas tank. Don't try to get fancy with it.

You may have a vacuum leak, faulty battery wiring/corroded connections, or might just need to tune the idle. Did this start happening all of a sudden, or has it been this way for a while?

Take a good look at Sterling's tutorial on how to tune the idle (it's not nearly as simple as you would first think) over at www.sterlingmetalworks.com And if that doesn't help, then you can ask him about it on his forum at the same website.

The idle will hold fine at 800RPM no hickups at all. This happens when I go for a rip down the highway. ill be crusing at 3-4K and hit the cluch and falls right to 0RPM. I might get the odd hutting bellow 500 and then stalls. but this only happens when driving the car and hitting the cluch and letting it fall back to idle. This has been going on ever since I started taking things off my car. ( rats Nest) I had a vacuume leack at my vaccume advance. so I disconnected hose and plugged at bottom of carb. That was the only Vacuume leak I have. the car idles very smooth.
Oh, now I dont know if this has anything to do with this but, when im at idle and hit the gas while in nutral. This is small popping from the muffler. ( not while decelling, but while holding consistantly at 3-4K) would that be concernoing or related to this issue.

When all else fails , go for the fuel line filter, sneaky little devils hide behind all sorts of things, and it probably needs changing anyway. Bob
