Car seat in 2+2 SA FB?
Hi I'm currently getting a 2+2 SA fb conversion in 1980 fb. I'm putting Fc rear seat in it. I was wondering if a car seat will fit in the back? Thanx:scratch:

I'm going to bet not.
The only back seat I've seen in an FB was more like a shelf. |
The oem fb seat its shaped so a child can fit, barely
Im pretty sure a car seat wont. If it does, probably is not safe. |
If you have a car seat that needs to be turn back word because of the child's age then I don't think so.

Won't fit. I tried.

That's what roof racks are for.

Depends on the seat. I saved my car years ago by installing a back seat kit when we had our kids. I cannot say whether or not it was actually safe, (probably not so much looking back on it, but hey this was before child restraints were required to be legal) but they did fit. We had two kids and so two seats!!
I don't know if they will fit in a SA with a 2nd gen rear seat, that may be a whole different story. |
I had a FC rear seat in the SA I just sold. The seat didn't seat properly. It was a forward facing model. Im sure a booster seat might work if placed in the middle of it.

the newer child seats have an anchor system that REQUIRES the vehicle to have a compatable two bar anchor system for the seat to work properly. do not install a child seat in the back of your 7.. you are asking for certain trouble as teh seat will not full anchor and in the event of an accident could kill the child. the RX-7 owners manual states how to install a child seat in the front. read up on that if you are insistant on installling a child seat. imo, not safe either way you look at it.
on a random note, the porsche 944 back seat requires a special porsche car seat, specifically made for the rear seat of the 944. not that mazda ever made one of those, but its a cool idea.. |
Euro-spec SA and FB came with rear seats, and belts. Putting a child seat in these is not safe, due to the shape of the seats AND because the belts are lapbelts (2-point) where as just about any child seat will be designed for decent three point belts.
That said, the rear seat of the SA/FB is shaped very much like a child seat, the kids just about fall into it... The main problem is the fact that the belts are only two-point. |

uhmm..
Why would you want to put a child in need of a carseat in your Rx7... Lol you will choke the kid out with the fumes of ultimate rotary goodness.... HAHA
Just sayin... |
When I was a child I used to sit in my moms trunk in her 79' Of course the car was brand new and NOT safe at all. That said, you can fit a reverse facing seat if you ratchet strap it in the back with the back rest portion between the seats but then it is hard to shift

Just sayin... That said, my kids (5 and 7 years old) absolutely love the RX-7(s), so I can't say the aren't allowed... |
1st gen's didn't meet rear crash standards(USA) to allow them to sell 2+2 models here...
