Car running bad sometimes, not all the time....

My new car has been running kinda crappy... When I shut it off, and leave it for 5 or 10 minutes, it doesn't want to start, I am guessing its flooding itself? It will also backfire when its idling, and went you rev it up, and let the revs come back down, it kind of pops and farts.... Also guessing (and hoping)it needs carb rebuild. How difficult is this to do? I have a manual with the how to, but it looks very complex.... Well just want to be sure that its the carb and I end up rebuilding for nothing ;)

look down the carb when it's running. see if the secondaries are spilling fuel. they shouldnt be, and if they are then yes you are getting way too much fuel.

I am not even sure where the secondaries are? closest to the passenger compartment?? I just got the car like 4 days ago, and most cars I've owned have been fuel injected up until this point.... Thanks for the help.

THe secondaries are the two barrels on the passenger side of the car. They are larger than the primaries.

you see, secondaries, I woulda figured to be smaller.... Thnx

I just had a look, and right now the car is running ok, and one of the secondaries is dripping gas into the carb. Good call. Now what do I do??
