Can someone help me and see if this car is worth restoring

I just bought a 1985 mazda rx7 gsl-se with 209k the motor is comrpessing at 101 in both rotors back is 1 pouns les (done with a digital compression tester). It was rear ended and it has a crack half way up the rear shock tower and its got several rust issues can anyone tell me if its worth my time and hard earned money...i do love the car and the interior is good. I think its awesome its a 5 speed and the tranny is really good brand new clutch....if u need pics just ask

i would say yes, just cuz i hate to see these cars die out. as long as it still drives, drive it. enjoy it while you can. keep it as a beater or w/e, just have fun lol. this advice probibly left you no where further than where you wanted to be.

Hhaha

HAHA i agree i bought it from an auto wreaker and being that it was a gsl-se i think its rarer because its got the 13b so i got it for like 500 bux which was good but i alos wanted to add that when it starts it smokes blue for the fist 10 or 15 seconds and then its alot of white smoke till its warm then it doesnt do it.....ill also add the tempature here is zero right now...and i did a test for the water jacket seal between the 2 rotors and according to the site that told me what to do it wasnt leaking any insite would also be greatly appreciated....and the reason i really asked about the strut tower is becasue the vehical has to be saftied and i was woundering if that could be re saftyed

If it came from the wreckers, theres a chance it might need a frame integrity check which is much more in depth than just a safety. If that is the case Im guessing it would be questionable to fix it up, as youll probably have to repair any areas that are rusted through or close too, including the underside of your car, as well as the damage from the collision.

I was in the same boat myself with my '85 GSL after it got rear ended, and I decided it wasnt worth fixing the damage, so I just ganked all the parts off it. I think once I find a decent shell, it will end up working out much better than fixing the damaged one.

In your case you just have to find out what its gonna take to get it on the road, and then weigh in all the options. Its definately hard for any of us to say whether or not its worthwile to fix, especially without any pictures. If the damage is too much to repair, dont give up, you just invested $500 in a pile of good parts.

I think the first step is to find out whats involved in getting it back on the road, then report back! haha
Good luck!
