Can I paint my carb?

ok since the pattern for title names is to be as vague as possible... i'm sure this has been covered before... prolly in a post thats titled "Check this out" or maybe "Can this be done" or possibly "my dog is hairy" I can safely say .... TITLE YOUR F'N POSTS ACURATELY!!!!!

Ok to the matter at hand... I just ordered a master rebuild kit for my Mikuni 44PHH and since I'm at it I was wondering if anyone knew whether I could paint my carb without causing any damage? Maybe recommend a paint???

If you gonna do anything to it, polish the aluminum body.

dbragg 08-22-07 06:00 PM

dont paint it. itll look like shit after a while. id just clean it up with some carb cleaner, a wire brush, and maybe some polish. honestly thouh, you cant really see it when the filter is on so dont try to get to into it ;)

oohhh, i got owned :D

still, i dont know if id paint it. id probably clean it up and use a wire brush on it. itd be better if you had a wire tip for a power drill. just clean it up a little. the only way youre going to get it looking perfect would be if you took it completely apart and started there, IMO.

true thats y he was asking if he could paint it

I should have asked how I can get it to look better... I'm FAR from wanting to be a ricer. I was thinking flat silver engine paint to make it look new. Mine is prolly the most used looking one I seen on the forum. I thought I heard that there was a way to get the aluminum to look good... I assumed that meant painting.... but if the old wire brush is what I need to do... Then thats what I will do. Thanks guys.

ooohhh and whats with the "mikuni you cant see" thingy???

i think aws just read the thread title and assumed you had the stock nikki... that you cant see with the big blue air cleaner

just clean it and polish it. steel wool and a wire brush.

I seen one painted red w/ polished horns a while back and really looked good to me.

rx7learner 08-22-07 08:03 PM

Now it makes sense!!! damn I was trying to figure out what air cleaner aws had. That's what I get for starting off with sarcasm.

I was thinking about this and I figured the gas would eat the paint off, soo I didn't do it. But if it works, hey, let me know about it.

You could buff/polish it and clear coat it. That would look better than any paint. Lotta work though. And paint will lose its gloss/shine in the engine compartment in a few months. Powdercoat would look great and last.

I'm with Carl on this one. Use buffing compound and a buffing wheel and then have it powder coated clear. That's what I'm doing with my Mikuni on my REPU.

If you really want to color it the smart thing to do would be to get a rebuild kit and strip it down to the plates then have it powder coated.
It should only run about 50$ to powder coat but youll have te re-assemble the carb with the new rebuild kit.

I've seen an Edelbrock painted black. Looked fine.
