Calling all autocross gurus.. need help with my carb
 

So today I attended autocross training and it was awesome!! Definitely hooked! The car felt really good throughout the day, suspension setup was just right I think, thanks in part to the Kentetsu special :) .. The only issue I had with the car was the nikki carb.

I still have a 12a with the stock intake and carb. I have an aftermarket carter fuel pump with a fuel pressure reg., dfis, racing beat air filter assembly, and that's about it for engine mods.

My car kept having real bad fuel starving issues on hard left turns. Enough that my car died once on a figure 8 practice.

So is there anything I can do to help the nikki carb, cause it's really annoying to have the car start dying on a really good run. I'd also be ready to spend money on the right aftermarket carb, just not sure what's best for autocross.

You'll need to be more specific. Which fuel pressure reg do you have and where is it set? Also where is the fuel level in the sight glass windows at idle?

Jeff20b... I'm using a Mallory regulator with return. I think it's set just below or at 4psi. I'm not sure about the fuel level in the sight window at idle, I'll have to check.

prophetjon.... That thread has some good info. looks like my fuel pressure might be too high and I'm actually going too rich, not lean.

Ok you need to turn your fuel pressure down to 2.5 for now. Then try less like they said in that thread.

Jeff has it nailed; you're not starving for fuel, you're flooding. If you watch in the rear view once it starts to get its footing back, you'll see a cloud of black smoke from the overly rich condition induced by the left turn.

What I did was find an empty parking lot and treat it like a skid pad. Just keep dropping the fuel pressure until you no longer bog on hard left handers.
