A/C ?'s on Turbo swap
Looking at doing a turbo swap; either TII or REW. My question is....can I use the newer A/C compressor with my existing A/C system, or will I have to use the FB compressor. I did some searching here and at other sites and could not find an answer.
Is anyone here an A/C expert ? I have no idea about different pressures from different year compressors. I can only assume they are all the same since they used the same freon. My only issue would be possibly retro'ing the fittings. But I'll worry about that after I figure out if it can be done or not. I'd love to re-vamp my a/c when I do the swap. Anyone done this? |
I have been considering this as well. I have a firm grasp of mechanical cooling (outside of cars) and can not see any reason this will not work. The evap and cond coils should be close enough in physical size to allow proper operation. I am also wondering about stripping emmision stuff off the TII.

yes windows down and if it gets real hot take the sunroof off. Thats what i used to do. Dam gslse seats make my back sweat like a mother.

The main issue is going to be splicing in the engine's A/C Controls with the chassis's controls. |

There are only two wires involved at the compressor, so I assumed they perform the same purpose regardless of year (i.e 12+ trigger and ground to throw the clutch). Care to elaborate on your statement? Splicing wires is as easy as two electrical connectors or some solder/shrink wrap. Am I missing something obvious? Thanks for your input! |

By the way, I live in Miami (hotter than Orlando) and I kept my AC in my car. I used it only a couple of times. Since I don't have tints (and don't want them), my A/C would take a while to cool down the interior. When I re-do some things in the engine bay in the near future - I am removing the entire system. It takes up too much space and it is ugly - for the amount that I used it. Plus, my Intercooler will be better off more hidden than it currently is. Now that I know - the tradeoff of keeping it wasn't worth it. It's not like the car was a DD. |
Yeah sorry, for some off reason I couldn't think what I wanted to say last night.
But yeah there are a few wires and such for controlling the A/C under WoT and such, as well as the sensors/switches for pressure cut-off and such. |
